Praying When Disaster Looms

As Hurricane Irma looms in the Caribbean, please be in prayer for our brothers and sisters in those areas. Continue praying for those suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. May crying to our Lord always be our first inclination in times of tragedy.

O LORD, God of Hosts,
who is mighty as you are,
O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you?
You rule the raging sea;
when its waves rise, you still them;
You crushed Rahab like a carcass;
you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm.
The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours;
the world and all that is in it, you have founded them.

Psalm 89:8-11

Father, we know that the wind and the waves yield to your command.

So, if it is your will, please make this storm vanish. Cause this storm to shrivel to nothing by your mighty power. You have not promised us a life without storms, but you have graciously promised us your presence (Psalm 23:1–6; Isaiah 43:1–3).

So please protect, help, and be close to those in the path of coming storms.

Comfort, provide for, and draw near to those already in the wake of great disaster.

Help us to walk well with our brothers and sisters through this time of great fear, sorrow, and need. May we sorrow well with them and sacrifice greatly in loving them (Romans 12:10–13). May we all rest in your control, trust your promises, and cling to you as our Lord and Savior (2 Chronicles 20:12).
