ALL IN: United in Truth! Week 4

Read along with us as our leaders share passages of Scripture that unify us and point our hearts toward the Lord and his truth as we anticipate moving to three services. Let's be praying the Lord will further advance his gospel on the west side of Indianapolis.

ALL IN: United in Truth! Week 4

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

Ephesians 4:15–16

God’s desire for His holy people is that they would increasingly look more like Jesus. To bring about this transformation, God uses His Spirit, His Word and His Church. In Ephesians 4:15–16, God’s Word paints a picture of a church working together to build itself up to the glory of God.

If the church is to mature, then God must bring about the maturity. But notice how He does this. It is when God’s people intentionally invest themselves in one another’s lives. The church matures when individuals in the church speak the truth to one another in love. The church is built up as it grows in unity and in the knowledge of the Son of God (v.13). Unity is a byproduct of embracing the same truth. We only grow in the knowledge of the Son of God if we faithfully speak the truth to one another in love. This is an invitation for every member to be used by God to help their brothers and sisters grow in Christ.

The passage goes on to demonstrate the “all in” nature of this reality. It is the “whole body” held together by “every joint” and it only grows when “each part is working properly”. There is no such thing as a dispensable part of the body. Each part—each person—is ordained by God to be used in the building up of the church. If we are to continue to mature as a church, then it will take the faithful obedience, the humble service and the truth-filled love of each member.

Praise God for this supernatural opportunity. And pray that God would do this work in us and through us.
