Our story begins with a small group of people meeting on the west side of Indianapolis in the Spring of 2007. They had a desire to see a church that was committed to the sufficiency of the Scriptures, while also being contemporary in methodology and style. This small group of people began committing themselves to praying about this ideal and eventually found themselves growing in numbers and in conversation with Harvest Bible Fellowship.
In the Fall of 2007, Doug Helmer was appointed as the Senior Pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel Indy West, while the core group grew to about 90 people, a Worship Pastor was hired, and plans were made for a public launch.
On March 9, 2008, we held our first public worship service at Regal Cinemas Shiloh Crossing in Avon, IN with over 200 in attendance. Over the next six years, we tripled in attendance, added a second service, and dreamed about a permanent facility that would be a sending-base place of ministry to our local community and beyond.
Six years later, on February 2, 2014, the Lord allowed us to open the doors to that permanent facility on 23 acres right in the middle of Avon. To this day, the Lord continues to build His church on the west side of Indianapolis, and entrusts us with growing ministry opportunities to make disciples that make disciples.
Harvest Indy West was the 25th plant of what is now over 150 Harvest Bible Chapels that have been planted across the world through the direction of Harvest Bible Fellowship. This church planting movement is in passionate pursuit of the fulfillment of Jesus Christ's promise to build His church (Matthew 16:18b).
